The Weskan Coyotes enjoyed a fun Homecoming week of many activities! The theme this year was “Coyotes Got Game.” The whole week was filled with arcade game themes.
Each class decorated a window or door that went along with the theme. The Junior High winner for the door was the Eighth grade class with, “Wreck-it-Ralph”, and the High School winner for the window was the Freshman with “Donkey Kong” as their theme.
Each day, the Junior High and High School participated in themed dress up days. The first day was “Multi-player Day”, the second day was “Toddler Day”, the third day was “Pac-Man Day”, and the fourth day was “Purple and Gold Spirit” Day.
Thursday morning, the whole school participated in the parade and the High school classes each put together a themed float. The Freshman class won the float with the theme, “Wreck it Ralph” the Sophomore’s float theme was “Mario Bros”, the Junior theme was “Wreck it Ralph”, and the Senior’s float consisted of a horse and carriage (they didn’t really have a theme). The Cheerleaders' theme was, “Pac-Man.”
Thursday night the Junior class held a Taco Dinner right before the all school Pep Rally, where the Cheerleaders got the crowd excited about the football teams’ game on Friday against the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks.
Parents were tested on how well they knew their seniors, Volleyball girls went head to head in competitive games against their parents (their parents will have you know that they won), and the Football boys went on a wild scavenger hunt against their parents. The 4th and 5th graders led the crowd in singing the Weskan Alma Mater, and it sounded great!
We finished the exciting Pep Rally with the crowning of the 2017 Weskan High School Homecoming King and Queen. The Homecoming Court consisted of: Hannah Cress, Laisha Herrera, Marja Kimmerl, Keaton Tesmer, Doniley Sexson, Bailey McQuillan, Isaic Dinkle and Dallas Seader. Bailey McQuillan and Laisha Herrera were crowned King and Queen. “It was a great, fun experience for my last year,” said Bailey McQuillan.
A cold and rainy Friday started off with the Juniors hosting a Tailgate party before the football game. They served pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies, and a drink. Directly following the Tailgate, was the highly anticipated football game!
The football team came out fast, jumping out to a 32-13 lead by halftime, highlighted by an early punt return by Jace Mackley and several big plays from Zack Box and Bailey McQuillan. After a slow 3rd quarter, the Coyotes finished the game strong, as Dallas Seader returned an interception for a touchdown, then caught a 4th and 1 pass from Jace Mackley to seal the game.
After the game ended, the High School got to celebrate by attending the 2017 Homecoming Dance! This dance was also Arcade Game themed, so it had Pac-Man doorways and tickets for streamers. The high school danced it up, and ended the 2017 Homecoming week with a bang!
